Handgun Level I – Basic Safety and Fundamentals

This course offers medium class sizes (6-12 students) to cover the basic information an individual should know before handling or purchasing a firearm. The class is not a requirement before entering the range but is highly recommended for those who have minimal or no experience with handguns. The class is broken up into two parts. The classroom portion will teach firearm safety, range rules and commands, an overview of semi-auto and revolver operation, the nomenclature, care, cleaning, and storage of your firearm in the home, and basics of operating and handling the handgun. The second portion is on the range and will go over loading and unloading the handgun, correct stance and grip, sight picture, sight alignment and trigger control. Students are encouraged to bring their own firearms (unloaded and in a case) but may opt to rent our handguns if they do not have one of their own. Students are also encouraged to bring the owner’s manual for their handgun if they want to learn to disassemble it during class.

Course length: 3 1/2 hours

Ammunition: Up to 100 rounds of correct caliber may be purchased at Tritac or bring in your own for an outside ammo fee of $5-

Handgun Level II – Defensive Principles and Techniques

In this four hour class, students will build upon basic principles to begin to develop proficiency and comfort with their personal firearms. Small class sizes (three or four students) offers more instructor interaction on an individual basis and helps each student progress at their own pace. After a short classroom portion reviewing fundamentals, students will spend the majority of the class on the range. Upon completion of the course, students will gain a greater understanding of the realities of defensive shooting, and the everyday nature of responsible concealed carry.

Topics covered include:

      • Understanding the safety concerns around carrying a firearm on a daily basis
      • Enhancing students’ understanding of marksmanship fundamentals
      • Learning how to safely draw and re-holster from a strong-side carry position, both for open carry and concealment
      • Learn the difference between and become proficient with emergency, administrative, and tactical reloads
      • Progressing the student’s shooting skills far enough to be able to perform multiple shots in an expedient and controlled manner, and be able to transition to multiple targets

Class Requirements:

Neither are holsters set to a cross draw configuration, shoulder holsters, small of back holsters, ankle holsters, pocket holsters, or appendix carry. Active retention holsters (ie BLACKHAWK! Serpa holsters) are discouraged.
